Demi - a fall story
Really, kicking off the Fall season (unofficially) in this sweater is such a dream. I love fall & winter seasons the most. In fact, my knitting is solely focused on that and I tend to think of wearing nothing but woolen sweaters.
Demi is "the" woolen sweater that perfectly fits in with my idea of a perfect fall sweater. It's warm, woolly and interesting in my books. Those twisted stitches are worth the effort and so are the bobbles. The colour, specifically chosen for it, really fulfills what I hoped for. All in all, I think it's a well rounded classic sweater that suits my needs, style and wardrobe. It will surely get a lot of wear for what it's worth.
I wouldn't call Demi an "easy" knit if twisted stitches and counting rows or stitches of multiple cables isn't your thing. It was certainly challenging and after a while, I sailed easy with the flow of the cables without looking at the pattern. I still had check the row numbers just to make sure the pieces match or else, the side cable panels would not converge at the seam. And for that reason, the body of Demi #2 is being worked in the round. It certainly makes the a difference to do ktbl than it is to purl though the back (ptbl).
Likely, it will be paired with these cords later to substitute for the summer ones in the photo. I just love the colour combo. Maybe some tweedy, herringbone or plaid woolly pants will suit it too. Possibilities are endless.
Since getting back home, a fourth button has been sewn on. I forgot to bring enough buttons while on my trip.
Pattern: Demi from Rowan Vintage Style
Size: Extra small. Fits perfectly.
Yarn: Rowan Scottish Tweed Aran in Thatch (018). Less than 6 balls. I opted for the recommended yarn and personally, I think it works the best with the sweater. Anything with more drape or stretch would probably not work the best. That's my opinion. Even though Rowan yarn is on the pricey side, it's worth the investment because I would not use cheap yarn for the amount of effort put into knitting the sweater.
Needles: Addi Turbos US 7/4.5mm and US8/5mm
Mods: Only added an inch or so on the ribbing on the body and sleeves.
Now, that this sweater is done, I look forward to fully embracing upcoming Fall and what it shall bring creatively!
Happy weekend!.

I don't even know what to say..incredible...the color you chose is just perfect!

Stunning! The colour! The texture! The fit! Just PERFECT! I've had my eye on that pattern since the book first came out, but now I think it's at the top five of my to-do list.

Absolutely gorgeous! And I agree. If you're going to put so much time and effort into a knit, use yarn worthy of it!

Pardon me as I wipe the drool off my key board. That is so divine...I love, absolutely LOVE, the color you chose. It just screams autumn (my favorite season) to me. I am not there as a knitter yet to attempt something like that...but with a bit more practice I will get there.

Oh my gosh - this turned out so lovely! You're almost making me want to work on a cable project instead of my current colorwork obsession. I'm sorry we weren't able to connect in person on your trip - hopefully sometime soon :D

I literally gasped! It is STUH-NING!!!
Makes me sad that I riped out my half-knitted demi. But in my case I was not using the yarn it called for and I think you're right that Scottish Tweed is the way to go. I might give it another chance.
Inspiring!

It's just so beautiful, and so are the photos. I totally love the color. Now I need to try and knit this one sometime!

It's gorgeous! I have Queensland Collection Kathmandu Aran in a dark green for it, and you may have just inspired me to bump it up in my queue. So many things to knit! I'm sure you've mentioned this before, but what type of lens do you usually photograph with? I'm thinking about getting a new one for my Canon Rebel...

Absolutely stunning. You are a wonderful knitter.

So very beautiful--one to be proud of for sure! I've put my Demi into hibernation because the twisted purls were doing a number on my hands--I wonder if I should rip what I have and start again in the round? Interesting....
Posted by: Ashley | August 30, 2008 at 09:54 AM
Its fantastic!
I'm in total agreement about (a) not having too much drape or stretch and (b) its worth paying for good yarn for the effort. Cautionary tale to others - I used lovely yarn I bought in a sale that was entirly mis-matched. Evidence here - http://slippedstitch.blogspot.com/2008/04/demi-done.html

Another beautiful knit! I love this 'Thatch' colourway too. Now you just need the weather to cool down enough to show it off!
