New quilt and a giveaway!
A very dear friend of mine, whom I share the same interests with creatively, invited me over to her house for sewing today. She and I get together once in a while and we knit together, go fabric shopping together etc. Last year, I showed her my sewing nook in the basement with all the ongoing projects and what I was planning to do ' if and when ' I get time to sew, and she came up with this idea of getting together just to sew. I quickly embraced the idea because I was so much in need of a push to get back into sewing again, after such a long dry period. After 3+ hours on the machine while she was helping with pressing the seams in her lovely sewing room, I sewed at least 60% of the quilt top .
Here is the quilt top so far, measuring about 54 inches by 45 inches. The African fabrics used were precut sometime last summer, when I thought I could tackle this project but never did. That was a big time saver because I only had to focus on the sewing and am quite amazed how much was accomplished in a short time.
This will be a lap quilt for our love seat, where we like cuddle up when we watch movies or football. Since my knitted cabled blanket is still in the works and possibly has a few more months to go before I can finish it, I thought a sewn blanket will be faster, easy and usable before the winter is over.
The quilt is just made up of different sizes of squares and rectangles and as you can see, there is no recipe or pattern in placement of fabric. Just random and/or whatever is visually appealing to me. It was great having a second pair of eyes to review that outcome and so far, am satisfied.
I used my patchwork bag to carry the precut fabric sorted out by size today. I do use that bag a lot and of course, am itching to make more.
I guess I cannot yet claim I have achieved my sewing goal for the year as it is rather an ongoing process, but at least this project assures me that am off to a great start. In the same spirit of acting on new year's goals, whatever your's maybe, I would love to motivate someone to get into action. Here is the deal: If you can guess one day, between today and last day of February, that you believe this quilt will be completed, leave a comment on this post and if you guess right (or closest to the actual date), I will send you small bundle of fabric scraps from this quilt. You can leave a comment for the draw until Friday Monday, January 14th! Have fun!

ooh - I wish I had seen this in time! I love those fabrics - and the 14th was my bday. :> Oh well, it is just stunning. Thank you for the inspiration.

I love the color of your quilt and I think it is ready on the 19th of February.
I hope it is the right day, because the fabrics were beautiful for my quilt 'Children of the World'
Also I want to finish one quarter of my quilt.
Greetings
